Official Opening Night at Osteria Coppa (sister restaurant to Sam’s Chowder House) in Downtown San Mateo was a success! The new restaurant was abuzz with friendly-foodies looking very content with what was being severed up from the uber-fresh menu offered on August 25th, 2010. This lively spot has a real place in San Mateo, different in a great way and I feel like it will be welcomed with open arms.

What differentiates Osteria Coppa from other Italian Restaurants in the area is the farm-to-table style they are maintaining on the daily. With a constantly revolving menu, using only the fresh and sustainable from nearby, this is a winner with the healthy and fit-for-foodie crowd.

We started the meal out by sharing the Margherita Pizza and the Artichokes (side-dish)–both wonderful. With help of the owner(s) we selected a bottle of the La Spinetta Ca’ Di Pian, Barbera d’Asti, Piedmont 07, a great compliment to all of our main courses. I, personally, had the Meatballs della casa with Dirty Girl Farms cauliflower and young broccoli– SUPER great and big enough that it’s almost a meal for two! Everyone else seemed to enjoy their dishes as well, leaving not much on our plates when finished (always a sign of yum, yum food).

Don’t wait long before making your opentable reservations for dinner at this new spot you’re sure to enjoy!

Are you looking for a good burger in San Mateo?

If so, stop by Jeffrey’s Hamburgers at 42 South B Street in San Mateo and enjoy. They prepare the burger the way you like it and then you go and add whatever condiments you like best at their famous condiments bar. They also have good fries and onion rings, milkshakes and malts.

Jeffrey’s is also very clean and well kept, and you enjoy your food in a fun 1950’s atmosphere.

So, I usually choose from about 5 places to get lunch every day and I usually end up choosing this restaurant at least twice a week. I am hesitant to promote this restaurant because I am afraid of longer lines/wait times. For once, I am hoping not too many people read this blog article, just kidding.
Central Market & Café, located at 517 South B Street in San Mateo. It is both a restaurant/café and a small market run by three sisters. While their store’s shelves resemble a 7-Eleven, their food is some of the best Vietnamese cuisine in the area. Everything is fresh, and made to satisfaction.
The sisters are friendly and love to have chat with their customers. You can often see me sitting at one of the tables playing California Lotto scratchers purchased from the market, while laughing over the sister’s funny jokes and eating a delicious meal.

Here are my two favorites that I would recommend to even the harshest of critics:

The Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich: The Vietnamese chicken sandwich is comprised of freshly grilled chicken with Cucumbers, Jalapenos, and Vietnamese Pickles. They grill the roll and the flavor is outstanding. I’ve never had another sandwich that’s even close to this. It’s very different.
The Egg Noodle Soup with Prawns and Shredded Chicken in Chicken Broth: It’s a great soup with dumplings, different seasonings, shredded chicken and noodles with huge prawns. If it’s raining outside, you will most likely find me and/or other team tapper members hovering over a bowl of this fantastic soup.
My wife Fay loves their grilled chicken rice vermicelli with greens. It’s kind of like a Chow Mein and soup in one. I’ve also had the salad with grilled chicken and tasty homemade dressing.
On my next visit, I’m going to try the curry chicken which I hear is screaming!

Check this place out, the food and friendly chatter will not disappoint!

When many San Francisco Bay Area residents think of prime rib, many think of the House of Prime Rib in San Francisco on Van Ness Avenue.

However, for us Peninsula residents we have an alternative. Hong, the owner of Broadway Prime brings the same style to the Peninsula.

Last night, I had another amazing meal at Broadway Prime in Burlingame. I have been going to Broadway Prime since its opening in 2000. Every holiday season, some friends and I have dinner at this excellent restaurant.

I know many of the Burlingame locals who read this blog know what I am talking about – as it has become a very popular dining destination. However, if you haven’t been to Broadway Prime, I highly recommend giving it a try.

They start you off with a delicious salad topped with their private home made dressing. Then with your entree, you choose from traditional mashed potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, or a baked potato with all the fixin’s. You also get a choice of either cream corn or cream spinach. If you are ask politely, they are usually more than happy to bring you both.

For the big eaters like me, if you are still hungry, you are welcome for seconds. The service is good, and staff is always friendly. Hong is a great host and will make sure you have enjoyed your meal, and he will always make sure you have had enough to eat.

So if you are looking for an enjoyable night out and an amazing meal, I highly recommend Broadway Prime in Burlingame. Tell Hong I sent you!
