One of San Mateo’s Best Kept Secrets!

 

So, I usually choose from about 5 places to get lunch every day and I usually end up choosing this restaurant at least twice a week. I am hesitant to promote this restaurant because I am afraid of longer lines/wait times. For once, I am hoping not too many people read this blog article, just kidding.
Central Market & Café, located at 517 South B Street in San Mateo. It is both a restaurant/café and a small market run by three sisters. While their store’s shelves resemble a 7-Eleven, their food is some of the best Vietnamese cuisine in the area. Everything is fresh, and made to satisfaction.
The sisters are friendly and love to have chat with their customers. You can often see me sitting at one of the tables playing California Lotto scratchers purchased from the market, while laughing over the sister’s funny jokes and eating a delicious meal.

 

Here are my two favorites that I would recommend to even the harshest of critics:

The Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich: The Vietnamese chicken sandwich is comprised of freshly grilled chicken with Cucumbers, Jalapenos, and Vietnamese Pickles. They grill the roll and the flavor is outstanding. I’ve never had another sandwich that’s even close to this. It’s very different.
The Egg Noodle Soup with Prawns and Shredded Chicken in Chicken Broth: It’s a great soup with dumplings, different seasonings, shredded chicken and noodles with huge prawns. If it’s raining outside, you will most likely find me and/or other team tapper members hovering over a bowl of this fantastic soup.
My wife Fay loves their grilled chicken rice vermicelli with greens. It’s kind of like a Chow Mein and soup in one. I’ve also had the salad with grilled chicken and tasty homemade dressing.
On my next visit, I’m going to try the curry chicken which I hear is screaming!

Broadway Prime on Broadway Avenue!

When many San Francisco Bay Area residents think of prime rib, many think of the House of Prime Rib in San Francisco on Van Ness Avenue.

However, for us Peninsula residents we have an alternative. Hong, the owner of Broadway Prime brings the same style to the Peninsula.

Last night, I had another amazing meal at Broadway Prime in Burlingame. I have been going to Broadway Prime since its opening in 2000. Every holiday season, some friends and I have dinner at this excellent restaurant.

Sprinkles Cupcakes Opens in Stanford Shopping Center

 

 

A new Southern California favorite has opened in Palo Alto!

Sprinkles Cupcakes has a new, and already booming location in the Stanford Shopping Center between Schaub’s Meat, Fish, & Poultry and Bang & Olufsen.

Just the walk from the parking lot to the bakery will have your mouth watering, as you can smell the sweet snacks baking from far off.

Being that Sprinkles just opened there was a pretty good sized line (about 15-20min) out the door when I stopped by for my tasty treats today. The store, inside and out is very clean looking and simple. The entire front is glass paneling with a “Sprinkles” sign above the door. The inside is accommodating to all customers with a glass display of fresh and ready to eat cupcakes when you first walk in. The cupcake and beverage menu is printed in a modern text on the back wall and very easy to read.

There are over 20 cupcake flavors to choose from, each just as good as the other. I noticed some favorites among the patrons; Red Velvet, Black and White, Chocolate Marshmallow and Lemon Coconut. Be sure to grab a cup of milk to wash your favortie flavor down with.

Sprinkles was founded by Candace Nelson and her husband in Beverly Hills, CA. Candace and her husband still oppertate out of that first location but have expanded to 6 other locations all over the U.S. and more to come! Sprinkles Cupcakes are always fresh and scratch-made everyday, you can’t get any better than that people!

So not only has Sprinkles brought a great new treat to the Peninsula, they make it easier than ever to enjoy these sweet snacks; you can pre-order your pick-up online with only 24hrs advance notice.

After delivering a few of these to my girlfriend at work, she says; ” you know, cupcakes are the new flowers”.
