The Number, “4″ is Unlucky to Many Buyers!
In America, the number “13” is notorious for being superstitiously unlucky. In the Chinese culture, many people consider the number “4” unlucky, because in Chinese and some dialects, such as Taiwanese, the number “4” has the same pronunciation as that of the character for “death”, and because of this, many Asian cultures associate this number with death. For many years people regard it as the inauspicious numeral and avoid it deliberately.
One of the most common avoidance tactics includes the skipping of numeral “4”. For instance, you might not see a 4th floor in an elevator, or you might not see a hospital room that ends with “4”. And in some areas in China and Taiwan, license plate numbers have skipped the “4” all together. Here in the Bay Area, when it comes time for buyers to purchase a home, you might want to observe that Asian homebuyers may choose a property over another because it has “4” in its address.
But, there are many who hold a different view, or say that they do not mind it at all. They see “4” as just another number.
One of my partners has even had some of his Chinese investors ask if they could change the address with the city because of the association with the number [4]. Just for the record, it is sometimes possible to slightly modify your address to avoid certain unwanted numbers in San Mateo County.

Thank you for the comment. I am with you. I would not count it out because of a number either. But, it is anther factor to think about.

Hey Nancy,
Thanks for your comments. And yes, I am aware of that number “9″ and “8″ are being considered lucky numbers. That’s why you will find that there is a website called http://www.99people.com and a grocery store chain named Ranch 99 in the Bay Area. As for number “8″, many friends of mine have several 8s in their cell phone number. And I myself was kind of happy when I was assigned two 8s in my cell number. That is (650) 922-8028. As for number “6″, I have yet to learn more about it.
Thanks again,
Shu
I’ve heard that red is a lucky colour but didn’t know 4 was supposed to be unlucky. That’s a shame – because China is the 4th biggest country in the world (I think). Talks about ironic. 13 isn’t just thought of being unlucky in America – it’s much of the world – although few people actually believe it.
I have a home with the address 8414 is this an unlucky number or lucky. I was told to put clear nail polish around the number 4.
thanks for sharing this post..
Hey Not for all.. LoL, “4″ is a lucky number for me.. maybe for some yes it is, but generally speaking people believes that “13″ is still the unlucky number. anyways thanks for this post, a very informative one. ty
I have heard that there have been studies that the number “7″ triggers the most sales, as in a buying number.
